Owo High School, Owo (OHSO) a co-educational Secondary School as well as an extension of school for the blind (visually impaired students) for purpose of secondary education in Ondo State was founded by the versatile educationist, Community Leader and astute politician, Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin. He later became the first Executive Governor of the then Ondo State (1979-1983). The logo of the school is red and white. The red signifies ‘Struggle to overcome’, while the white connotes ‘Truth’. The motto of the school was ‘Truth is Supreme’ but later modified to Courage, Faith and Truth.

The school officially took off on 18th January, 1963 in a Cocoa Produce Store at Okeogun provided by the late Reverend Canon Jide O.Fagboyegun. There were 42 boys and 18 girls under the principalship of Chief Ajasin at inception. Mr Fola Bamidele was the first Senior Prefect of the school. He remained Senior Prefect until first graduation in December 1967. Miss Biola Aladesuru (now Mrs. Adeniyi) was the first Head girl. She was succeeded by Miss  Toun Arobo ( now Mrs Owopetu) 1964 to 1966. She however handed over to Ms Caroline Adetula in 1967.

At inception, the school uniform was an all white shirt and shorts for boys and gown for girls. However, this was changed in 1968 to white and red stripes shirt and grey shorts for boys and red and white stripes gown for girls. Presently, the school uniform is pink checkered shirt and green trousers for senior boys, (green shorts for juniors) and pink checkered shirt and green pleated skirt for senior girls, (pink checkered pleated gowns for juniors).

To encourage girl education, the Proprietor allowed parents to pay lower fees for girls than for boys back then.

The land for the present site was provided by Papa’s cousin, the late Aboluwodi of Owo, Chief Samuel Adeloye. It is not surprising that the four Sporting Houses in OHSO today were named after these great men who contributed immensely to the success of the School right from it’s formative years. There is Adeloye (Aboluwodi) House (Green), Fagboyegun House (Blue), Adetula (Sasere) House (Yellow) and Ajasin House (Red).

The first teaching staff of the school were Mr. J.O Omogbeja, Miss Theresa Bolaji Adetula and Chief Ajasin, the Principal/Proprietor, while Chief Sasere Adetula was the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school.

In January 1964, the school moved from its temporary location to its present permanent site. In an unprecedented action, the Western Group of Provinces placed the school on its Public List on 28th, June, 1966 because of its exceptional performance; a feat and recognition given only after eight years of  existence of a school and excellent performance.

The first set of students  (pioneer set) of the school sat for the  West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) in Nov/Dec, 1967 and the first set of visually impaired students were admitted into OHSO in 1983. They were four boys: Idris Sekiru Olusegun, Agbaje Jimoh, Dauda Ojo and Filani Emmanuel.

In his bid to deepened his political activities and contest for the office of the then Ondo State Governor, Papa Ajasin bowed out of service on 7th July, 1975. He was succeeded by the late Mr. R.A Bamkole  (05/09/1975 – 28/08/1976).

Since its inception, the school has produced so many great men and women who are all making waves and contributing meaningfully to the development of Nigeria and global development in their various fields of endeavour.
